10 One-Minute Things You Can Do to Feel Great Right Now

April 21, 2021

In the craziness of daily life, it can feel like we don’t have time for anything extra, especially self-care. This list is about to prove that wrong. In just one minute, you can stop and change the way your entire day feels. Nothing is more important than your wellbeing, so making that a priority is essential. Plus, it not only benefits you—everyone in your orbit will feel the goodness.

1. Breathe.

Experts suggest breathing in for three counts, holding it for four counts, then exhaling for five counts. Hello instant relaxation.

2. Repeat a go-to mantra.

Try “I am enough.” Or “Hashem loves me.” Meditating on something you really need at the moment can give you a boost that lasts way longer than a minute.

3. Text a friend to check in.

Just sending a quick note that says, “Hi! I miss you and am thinking of you,” can really make someone’s day. It takes less than 30 seconds to do and will leave you feeling good, too.

4. Start a conversation with Hashem.

If you have something going on that you’re super stressed about, just take a minute to talk it out with Hashem. He may send some good ideas or clarity to you. At the very least, you’ll feel great that you got it out of your system.

5. Hide your phone.

If you have something you really need to get done, or just feel overwhelmed by technology, hide your phone for a little. Leave it in the other room while you pray, cook something or go on a walk. You’ll feel so refreshed after.

6. Write down your davening list.

We all have WhatsApp groups where someone shares a name to daven for, or maybe you received an email recently asking for prayers. Take a minute to collect a few names or ones you just keep in your brain and stick it in your siddur so you’re ready to pray for others the next time you pick it up.

7. Tidy up your room.

Sure, depending on the messiness level this could take more than a minute, but if you have clothes waiting to be put away or a messy bed, taking a minute or two to just put things back and in order will help declutter your mind, too.

8. Try an ice roller or facial spray.

This is the best for a midday refresh. Using an ice roller on your face will help wake you up if you’re feeling sluggish, and trying a facial spray, whether it’s just plain water or something fancier, can help you feel so revived. It’s like a mini spa break in between the to-dos!

9. Beam into the sun.

Getting a quick dose of vitamin D at any point in the day will give you a change in environment and a necessary nutrient for your health.

10. Hug someone.

If you have someone around you can hug, go at it for 10–20 seconds. The oxytocin release will make you feel so loved. If no one is around, hug yourself! It may feel weird, but we promise it will make a difference.

  • Great article with good ideas! Here’s my go-to quick pick-me-up: Brush your teeth. Seriously! I love the feeling of clean teeth and a fresh, minty mouth, and it takes less than a minute. Then I can enjoy the clean feeling for quite awhile after I brush.

  • This is sooo good. It’s not the typical “self-care tips” list, because so much of it is centered around Hashem. 🥹🙏 BH!!!
